Let me tell you………ALL these estates are breathtaking and I thank them all for sharing their properties and their creations with everyone. By entering this exhibition, we all got a chance to know you just a bit better!
Our judges had to make some very difficult decisions with regard to awards in the various categories. ALL the estates deserve an award, really! And ALL should be proud of their presentations on the properties.
I was lucky enough to have had discussions with the judges to provide some guidance given my background in landscaping and botany (SL & RL). Without further delay……here are the results and awards for VISTAS & BLOSSOMS for 2012:
BEST USE OF A DEDICATED STRUCTURE ($L1,000 award): THIRA, Entry by Alan Bolero & Othon Weiland
BEST ‘THEMED’ DESIGN ($L1,000 award): it seems we have a tie. In no particular order, then: MAHAKESH, Entry by Enzo Zarco. ROMANUM, Entry by Emperor Galtier.
BEST RURAL SETTING DESIGN: PINE VALLEY RESORT, Entry by Geo McAuley
BEST URBAN SETTING DESIGN ($l1,000 award): Again there is a tie. In no particular order then: THE GAY RIVIERA, Entry by Baz Caewlin, BROKEBACK PRIDE HQ, Entry by Draghan Marksman
BEST USE OF A WATER FEATURE ($L1,000 award): Regions of Ukunga, Entry by ShanePaul Benazzi
Now…..on to the top three winners of the exhibition. Each of these people will receive a trophy for their mantle, a cash award and will be asked to be on the judging panel and ‘non participant estates’ for the next Landcape & Garden show to be held in the GA.
2ND RUNNER UP ($L2,500 award, Bronze trophy): BLACK HILLS/LE DOME, Entry by Benoit Lednev.
1ST RUNNER UP ($L7,500 award, Silver trophy): GAY FRANCE, Entry by Imperator Janus
and finally….the ‘BIG FISH’
BEST IN SHOW ($L15,000 award, Crystal trophy): Theatre on the Hill/Pure Luxury, Entry by Oliver Elton.
Congratulations to all the award winners….and to ALL the estates in this successful & friendly competition!
I received numerous comments from visitors that had taken the entire tour – some over a period of a few days to take it all in. ALL were positive and glowing about the tremendous diversity displayed for them throughout our estates!
I want to thank you all for participating and allowing this event to be the success it developed into! Also, wish to extend an early invitation to you all (to keep in the back of your head) for the next such Landscape & Garden exhibition in the GA. If anyone is interested in helping with creating this, please contact me!
Yours in horticulture,
Garth Raleigh
